Hi! My name is
Sheila Owens-Collins, MD
Hi! My name is Sheila Owens-Collins, MD. My favorite title is not MD but Mom. I have raised a child who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes 2 months before his 14th birthday. He had dreams and plans for his future that were in place at the time of diagnosis. His goal and the goal of his family were to stay on course with those dreams and not let Diabetes deter him.
He succeeded!! His desire to play college football at an Ivy League school came true. He played for Yale and was voted to the All-Ivy League as a senior.
His dream of becoming a doctor and later a Sports Psychiatrist is coming true, as he is a Chief Resident in Psychiatry at Stanford University. It is our hope that sharing our story will empower other families to live their life as fully as you had planned, and never give up hope!
